The county has received a site plan to develop the property adjacent to the railroad bridge on Newington Road between the bridge and Loisdale Road. You may be aware of the history of this site. The county was sued since the Board of Supervisors would not allow development, and the court ruled the county must zone it, and permit I-4 development. Under the plans submitted by the applicant, there will be an entrance to the by-right facility immediately west (going towards Cinderbed) of the underpass if approved.
This facility will be for trucking purposes with many large vehicles accessing the entrance adjacent to the bridge many times throughout the day.
Clearly this will exacerbate the already dangerous situation, with increased traffic and larger vehicles.
Fairfax County DOT has already asked VDOT to look into this issue in the past, but VDOT has approved the site plan and passed it on to the county for further approval. This decision by VDOT effectively ties the county's hands in terms of transportation objections to the site plan - which are the main issues.

Perhaps a letter, or email, could be sent to your representatives requesting reconsideration from VDOT staff based on site distance and consequent safety concerns. I will contact them up front, but coming from the citizens, who are most affected, because they use this road each day, will have greater impact:
